The Design Panorama is an annual exhibition custom-made each year, during the time of the convocation ceremony. It features work of the students, NID’s collaborations and achievements. This year, it was especially designed as a presidential exhibition for President Draupadi Murmu.
An exhibition designed in the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, for the H’ble President of India, Draupadi Murmu.
44th Convocation at NID

This year’s theme is ‘Design is Borderless.’ Our aim is to convey that design cannot be confined
to boundaries, because it blurs across all kinds
of social, cultural, geographic, disciplinary, or conceptual perspectives and practices.
Our vision was to show NID’s impact across
these borders in conversations, practices and research related to design.
Design is Borderless

Students’ work on display
The colors for this year were inspired from the multi-cultural scene of India, both within its geographical borders and across its global diaspora, which we saw as a unintentional but powerful example of how design transcends across borders with values of joy, sharing and community.

Color Palette
Motion Graphic

The motion graphic for the exhibition was created around the narrative of “breaking boundaries.” Displayed on the exterior LED panel, it functioned as an eye-catching visual that complemented the interior of the exhibition, maintaining a consistent color palette and visual language. It displays the logo, and motifs designed by the identity team.
Made using After Effects and Illustrator.

The textile motifs are a reminder of NID’s roots - a pivotal role in its founding and location, Ahmedabad being known as a textile hub.
The treatment of the motifs are an imitation of Ikat fabric which uses a special dying technique to achieve its iconic bleed-over-lines look.
The patterns themselves are taken from Patola fabric, a double Ikat woven cloth.

An impactful design acknowledges this blurry line and works across them. This is one of the key reasons our entire exhibit is bilingual, allowing it to be accessed by Hindi and English speaking audiences.
Space Design

The space holds a theme panel in the center, and displays along the walls. Keeping the standard movement of the space similar, we instead played with the colors, lighting, to create a new feel of the space. This year, the transparent walls were also covered, giving it a fresh look.
Representative Isometric Drawing
Not to exact scale.

The theme panel was designed to wrap around the cylindrical pillars, breaking away from traditional theme panels seen in this space, which normally lie in between the two pillars. This gave the space a fresh look & feel, which along with 4 LED touchscreen panels, introduced a new era of NID.

The main built structure was made using 18 mm MDF, instead of plywood because of the temporary nature of the exhibition. It helped prioritize production cost and time.
5V LED strip lights were installed onto the center structure before fitting the screen to give it a glowing effect.
This year, the windows were covered to accommodate for a high-contrast LED panel which was used to display the 44th Convocation motion graphics, archived images & videos
and the year recap.
The NID timeline on the back wall was extended across the entire wall and redesigned to fit into this years theme. Taken from the NID archive, new photos were also added, adding corresponding visuals to the events on the timeline to give it a cohesive finish.

The exhibition was inaugurated on 27th February 2025 by President Draupadi Murmu. Featuring a product design display, campus interaction screens, NID history timeline, and a global impact interactive panel, it showcased the institute’s best works and influence across borders.
